Our humble journey started with a vision.
Nick's journey in visual storytelling began in the late 1990s, when he was making artistic short films for international festivals whilst completing a Bachelor of Arts in Photography. Even then, his practice bridged the artistic and the technical: building analogue darkrooms for fellow students, working as an industrial photographer on large-scale council projects, and mounting six photographic exhibitions before relocating to Sydney in 2010.
Sydney opened new doors. What started with eCommerce photography quickly expanded into content creation and then corporate communications, where Nick went on to produce over 300 videos annually for major Australian organisations. During this time, he completed two master's degrees, one in Studio Arts and then Professional Communication, deepening both his creative practice and his understanding of how organisations connect with their audiences.
Over the years, he has worked as a video producer, director of photography, cinematographer, photographer, editor, sound recordist, darkroom specialist, consultant and teacher. His projects have ranged from music videos and documentaries to serving as DoP for a long feature film in Bondi, all whilst maintaining his artistic practice and teaching the next generation of image makers.
In late 2023, Nick gathered a group of like-minded professionals and artists under one roof to form Focal Vision. The studio brings together decades of experience across photography, video production and consulting helping industries and corporations tell stories that genuinely connect.
